Please read for some important points about the upcoming construction project.
Dear Pelham Parents and Community Members,
As part of our efforts to slow the spread COVID-19 and other illnesses, we have postponed tonight's informational meeting on the new Hutchinson School construction. While we are disappointed that we will not have the opportunity to meet and share information about this exciting project, we did want to share some key points so that you have an idea of what to expect in the coming weeks.
As you probably have seen, construction has already begun and we expect the work to ramp up soon. Right now, most of the work relates to staging, and our contractors are starting on the building foundation.
Steel is expected to go up in the late summer and exterior work will begin in the fall.
Work hours are expected to follow Village of Pelham code and will generally be 8am-6pm Monday through Friday and weekends as needed.
The haul road off Lincoln Avenue is still in use at this time and there will be a flagger to help with traffic control. In the next few weeks however, the haul road will be discontinued to make way for foundations for the new school. After this point, some deliveries will continue to come in via Lincoln Avenue, but it will become necessary to increase use of the Fifth Street entrance for construction purposes.
Contractors will not be permitted within the school or modular art room. As an added security precaution they will all be screened through the District's visitor management system and have been directed to wear photo identification at all times.
While all construction projects of this nature will bring added noise, we do not anticipate any disruption to our normal school day, nor do we expect any changes to regular school procedures.
The target completion date for the new building is still July 2021 with the goal of opening the school for students in the fall. Demolition of the current building would then be expected to start in the summer of 2022.
The coming weeks and months will surely present some additional challenges, particularly for our Hutchinson neighbors. I want to thank everyone in advance for your patience and look forward to seeing this exciting project come to life. As a reminder, please reach out to our Construction Manager by sending an email to Pelhamprojectinfo@tritonconstruction.net or calling 914-222-0883 with any project-related questions. We will share a date for the next community once it is set.
